Hi Bob,

One issue is the fact that we have two separate Fire Districts and Fire Departments in town. I think almost everyone I have talked to agrees that our town is not large enough to warrant two separate Districts, each with their own Fire Departments. I understand that this goes back to the history of our town and it currently involves Water Departments, their policies and rates. When you ‘take a step back’ and think in a business minded view it just seems to make more sense to have our 2 fire stations working together as one Fire Department and possibly even one Water Department. Our electric department isn’t divided into two organizations. There is savings in eliminating duplication of services. I understand that this is not a popular view with those involved in the two separate organizations. If it could have so many benefits for the town in the long run then shouldn’t it be at least proposed to the people who live in town and maybe let the voters decide?

1. Revitalization and rejuvenation of the Falls area.

2. Communication. Often the town passes bylaws and make decisions that do not get to the community-at-large. This information could be enclosed with town bills. The building inspector, health department and planning board should be following up on goings on in town. Some communities have a position for this purpose.

3. Infrastructure. There are very old sewer and water lines in town which haven't been expanded with the growth of the town. Road maintenance is also a concern.

4. Taxes. Budgets need scrutinizing. Grant writers may come into play.

5. Recycling. I would like to see an increase in our recycling effort.

6. Farms. I am aware of two big farms on Alvord Street. The town should be alert to these open spaces.

7. Library. We have a wonderful library, but we could use a better facility.

8. Fire Departments. Do we need two? The ambulance service is critical.

9. A number of folks at the community meeting were conerned with the building growth of the town especially condos built on small parcels of land.

10. The Golf Course. We need to lessen the burden on the town. We should look into what Amherst did last year to end their deficit.

11. Landfill. Another concern is the future of our landfill. Is it feasible to maintain a portion just for our own town use?

12. Pollution. I have concerns about the power plant on Route 5, in Holyoke, burning coal. We need to be sure our town businesses are not violating regulations and encouraged to do beter than regulations require.
